J. Michael Young Award
University of Kansas Honors Program
For students in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences only. $300 to $500 awards are offered to enable students to attend academic and professional conferences or to conduct research away from the Lawrence Campus.

UNCF / Merek Science Initiative Scholarship
The UNCF/Merck Science Initiative (UMSI) provides undergraduate, graduate and post-doctoral support to outstanding African-American students who are pursuing studies and research careers in biological and chemical sciences.

NSF C-CHANGE IGERT Program
University of Kansas
The C-CHANGE program is for PhD students in the social sciences, natural sciences, and engineering who are interested in understanding the human causes and consequences of climate change and in developing strategies for responding to these changes. Graduate students accepted into the NSF C-CHANGE IGERT program are eligible for funding for 5 years of graduate study. A C-CHANGE Fellow’s funding is provided by both the PhD department and the C-CHANGE program, including up to two years of NSF C-CHANGE IGERT funding at $30,000 per year (plus tuition).

Summer Research Opportunity Program
Committee on Institutional Cooperation (CIC)
The Summer Research Opportunities Program (SROP) is a gateway to graduate education at CIC universities. The goal of the program is to increase the number of underrepresented students who pursue graduate study and research careers. SROP helps prepare undergraduates for graduate study through intensive research experiences with faculty mentors and enrichment activities.
- Exploration in Statistics: Undergraduate Summer Program in UC Berkeley
Seven-day program thatl explores scientific questions using statistical approaches ranging from simple summaries to more sophisticated modeling approaches.Students will receive a basic introduction to statistical computing, providing them with the skills to perform fundamental data manipulations, conduct exploratory analyses and create informative visualizations.
All program participants' round-trip travel to Berkeley and their room and board will paid by the program. Sponsored by the National Science Foundation.
- University of Michigan NIH-funded Postbaccalaureate Research Education Program (PREP)
The program isdesigned to help underrepresented students who want to further prepare for application to top-ranked Ph.D. programs in the biological and biomedical sciences. There are 150 faculty mentors available across the UM campus. Admitted PREP students receive a full tuition scholarship, salary, and benefits including health and dental insurance. In addition to research, PREP students have opportunities to participate in a variety of activities designed to help prepare them for graduate school applications.

Computational Biology Ph.D. Program
Carnegie Mellon-University of Pittsburgh
Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh have joined forces to establish an exciting interdisciplinary program leading to a Ph.D. in Computational Biology. The goal of this Ph.D. program is to provide intensive interdisciplinary education to enable outstanding students to become leaders in identifying and solving tomorrow's biological problems using computational methods.

The Office of Fellowships offers a number of opportunities to increase participation of minority groups who are underrepresented in Smithsonian scholarly programs, in the disciplines of research conducted at the Institution, and in the museum field.

COE 2009 International Leadership Training Program
COE and the University of Liverpool are collaborating to offer an exciting learning opportunity for a group of up to 20 TRIO SSS and McNair students. Students will have the chance to spend three weeks in Europe as the guests of the University of Liverpool, one of the leading research universities in the United Kingdom. They will explore issues of common concern to both UK and US citizens. The program combines study and debate on campus with project work with schools or local communities, as well as excursions to London, Amsterdam and Antwerp.

If you are engaged in a research or creative scholarly project, you are encouraged to present your provisional or final findings as part of this Symposium. You may develop either a poster or an oral presentation. This is an excellent opportunity to share the fruits of your labors and to help your colleagues understand the nature and scope of your investigations.
